METHOD WRITING:
A word from Kevin Jacobsen
In the 7-week Advanced Level Method Writing class we will be working from Jack Grapes’ Advanced Method Writing book, The Art of Tonal Dynamics. This class builds on all previous prequel and level one techniques to establish a cohesive understanding of Method Writing. It’s the ongoing struggle of all writers to keep the reader entertained and turn to the next page. The deep voice alone won’t do it. In the advanced class you will learn Method Writing techniques that will create music, rhyme, and most importantly, tonal shifts in your writing. We call this essential quality, tonal dynamics. The effect of the tonal dynamics, supported by the deep voice, is what all readers subconsciously crave in every book, short story, and novel, you name it. Tonal dynamics is the secret sauce that keeps the reader glued to your writing. Like a good composer creating tonal shifts in a symphony, the techniques in the Advanced Level Method Writing class will help you create that same symphonic-effect in your writing. We will cover all this while still writing our journal style entries and leaning on the creative process.
